SYMPTOM
Sneezing in sunlight is when you suddenly sneeze as soon as you step into bright light, particularly sunshine.
For general awareness only. This is not medical advice. If symptoms are severe or persistent, consult a healthcare professional.
Showing 4 causes
Photic sneeze reflex
Your brain misinterprets bright light signals from your eyes and sending an accidental signal to your nose's sneeze center.
Trigeminal nerve cross-talk
The optic nerve is stimulated by bright light and may inadvertently trigger the nearby trigeminal nerve. This nerve controls facial sensation and could cause a sneeze reflex when overstimulated.
Ocular-nasal reflex synergy
Intense light exposure could abnormally activate a reflex pathway that connects the eyes and nose.
Parasympathetic nervous system activity
Bright light causes pupil constriction via the parasympathetic system. This intense nerve activity may stimulate nasal nerves.
